Eleanor Strevens did not plan to open the year walking a record race of 1500 meters, much less in one of its idols. But this is exactly how things were developed in the Koley Klassic, where a last -minute call saw her establish the tempo for the Georgia Bell hunter, who came to break the British interior brand a better personal brand of 4: 00.63.
Before that unexpected turn in the use of Birmingham sand in February, the 18 -year -old had already left her mark in Cross Country. She affirmed the title of the short course of the BUCs and contributed to a performance of the Sub-20 team winner of the British Gold Medal in the European Cross Country Championship in Antalya, finishing sixth, only the Mats Innes Fitzgerald and Jess Bailey team.
Now, just completing his first year at the University of Birmingham, Strevens made his debut in the outdoor championships with a strong second place in the 800m, with 2: 06.59 Beind Abigail Iives. Only a week later, he published a better better of 1500m of 4: 14.61 that made the fastest less than 20 in the United Kingdom during the distance this year, at the time of writing (Strevens had improved at 2: 04.45/4: 13.41 in mid -June). With his high and improved trust, Strevens is now establishing his point of view in winning a place in the Great Britain team for the European Sub-20 championships this summer in Tampere, Finland.
How did you get into sport?
Actually, he arrived for the first time on sport day at elementary school and someone approached my mother and asked me if he ran for a club. When we said that I have not recruited Eastbourne, which is my local club, so I got in touch with a coach there, I was nine years old and then everything was spiral from there. I loved when I was a child and I think I was lucky to have been endowed and have a natural ability to run.
How was your season leg so far?
I am very happy with how the year has happened. Cross-Country Bucs was probably one of my favorite careers I have done. Obviously, I hope it is more space to come, but I think where we are now is a good start and I hope it is leading to the objectives of what we realize the season.
How was Georgia Hunter Bell’s rhythm experience?
It was amazing. It was really at the last minute, we only received the call the previous day because I think the original pacemaker retired and then contacted me. I thought: ‘Oh, my God’ because I just had one of my most difficult track sessions of the year the previous day.
But it was such an incredible experience being surrounded by Georgia and being able to accelerate it, as well as Sarah Healey directing the Irish album. It really motivated me, since I knew that was what I wanted to achieve and be like Georgia.
The nerves were very worse than only normal races. I will have the leg much less nervous to the real race in the race than to calm it, but I think it was good to learn with what it is.
As a first -year student, how did you find the transition to the university?
I have not had too much problems to juggle with work and training, but I think that, when I arrived at the university, it was a great leap because I have trained in my legs in Eastbourne, I was nine years old until age or 18.
I had always been with my little group and I think that coming to university and being surrounded by so incredible athletes definitely returned me a little because I could be in charge of my group at home, but Uni, many athletes. I think it’s really valuable to learn and obvious, now I’m adapted.
What works so well within the Athletics Team of the University of Birmingham?
Honestly, it is a credit for coaches. I think we all have so much confidence in them and I think that is very important. My coach in Birmingham is Dean Miller and I have a lot of confidence in him, when he tells me to make a certain session or make a certain career, I know that is what I have to do for the best possible athlete.
I think it really is the key, all coaches work together to get the best out of us in such an environment.
Who do you admire?
Georgia Hunter Bell because he disappeared from sport for so long and then had such a strong return. In general, he is such a charming person and is an inspiration, so it was an honor to altar her.
What is your greatest achievement so far?
I think that getting to the European Cross Country championship in 2024 and the next sixth would be one of my favorite careers and the best achievement.
Upon entering the cross season, I planned to run a lot and was doing a little with the aim of building my resistance for the 800m. But, when I get to university, Dean told me that he activates this has to do in you to make the team and it was a real fight to do it. [The European Cross trials in] Liverpool was a really difficult race, but I managed to pass. In Türkiye, the championships were really revealed, so I was very happy how it was.
How are things in a very competitive age group, with the tastes of Innes Fitzgerald and Jess Bailey, affect their performance?
I love everyone, they are very friendly in the world of competition. It is great to have these people who push you and make you fight for more. It will be the same in this track season. There are so many fast girls who point to Europeans [U20s] And I think, in general, we are all stimulating ourselves to try to improve. I think it’s great to have that level of competition around us.
What’s still for you?
The goal will be to reach the U-20 European championship. We are pointing mainly at 1500m, but I am trying to obtain the qualification time in the 800m and 1500m.
