Justin Thomas trying to do something PGA Tour hasn’t seen in 2025

Justin Thomas shot a 61 to begin his RBC heritage and, as expected, has the first round advantage. From what is worth it, I was tied in the best 18 -hole scoring record in the RBC, but it is the lowest opening round score (Cam Smith had a 62 in 2021).

It is never easy to go from cable to wiring in a sport in which I have the task of doing so, and we are deep enough in the PGA Tour season so that we have a legitimate sample size to work on some things … including it.

Through 16 openings on the tour this season, no player has won successfully after maintaining the opening advantage and JT himself has not been able to do it since the BMW 2019 championship.

In general, Thomas is 4 of 11 by converting this type of lead into any victory. While the last one he charged was in 2019 his last opening period of the opening round was the Open of Genesis Scottish 2024. The finally finished tied in the 62nd position.

If Thomas will win this weekend, then he will overcome a tough competition to do so. Russell Henley, winner of another signature event this season at the API, and Scottie Scheffler, who still looks for his first victory of the season, are three blows. Wyndham Clark, who ended T3 at the event last year, is one more behind them. Justin Rose is just two blows from there, since he is still playing well after his defeat in the playoffs against Rory Mcilroy in the masters last week.

The point is … Golf is quite good, friends.
