The Mexican band Los Alegres del Barranco, a group that glorifies drug cartels in many of their songs, has canceled their visas by the Trump administration before a concert planned in San Francisco.
The band was scheduled to head a South Bay concert on April 29, but the United States Undersecretary of State, Christopher Landau, intervened on April 1 to the brakes in the band’s plans.
“I firmly believe in freedom of expression, but that does not mean that the expression is free of consequences,” Landau wrote in a publication about X.
“A Mexican band, ‘Los Alegres del Barranco’, portrayed images glorifying the Kingpin drug ‘El Mencho’ – Chief of the CJNG poster grotesquely violent, in a recent concert in Mexico. I am pleased to announce that the State Department has revoked the work and tourism visas of the band members,” said the official.
“In the Trump administration, we seriously take our responsibility for the access of foreigners to our country. The last thing we need is a welcome carpet for people who extol criminals and terrorists,” Landau concluded.
The cheerful of the ravine is a niche band in what is called the genus “narcocorrido”, or drug ballads, a music style in which musicians celebrate and glorify the dangerous leaders of the Mexican poster and praise their crimes.
In an answer to an X user who wrote “Fafo” (fuck and discover), Landau jokes He replied“I was thinking of including that in my publication, but I thought it was already an adventure far enough out of the conventional diplomatic box that I did not want to explode heads.”
In a post replying to the revocation of their visas, The Band insisted they needed to offend Anyone, Writing in Spanish, “It was snow our intention to generate controversy, let Alone cause offense.
