Pope Francis died of a stroke and irreversible heart failure, said Vatican doctor Andrea Arcangeli in a death certificate.

The certificate published Monday for the 88 -year -old Pontiff said that the Pope had fallen into a coma before his death earlier in the day.

Pope Francis had suffered several ailments turning his 12 -year -old papacy, with severe complications in recent weeks after a double combat or pneumonia for which he spent 38 days at the Gemelli Hospital in Rome.

The Vatican also launched the spiritual testament of Pope Francis, a declaration of written faith, in which he said he wanted to be buried in the Basilica of Rome or Santa María Mayor and not in the Basilica of San Pedro in the Vatican, unlike many of his predecessors.

The specialized text to Pope Francis wanted to be buried “on the ground, without particle decoration”, but with the registration of his papal name in Latin: Francis.

“As I feel the twilight that is approaching my earthly life, and with a firm hope in eternal life, I want to establish my final desires only with respect to the place of my burial,” said the will, which was dated June 29, 2022.

“That the Lord grant an adequate reward to all those who have loved me and who continually pray for me,” he said.
