The head of the novel Catholic Church dies in the Vatican at the age of 88.
Pope Francis was widely considered the “Pope of the People.”
He was the first Latin American to direct the Church of the Roman catalyña, which has more than 1.4 billion followers worldwide.
Often a voice for the poor, Francis also faced a fierce resistance in their efforts to remodel the highly traditional and conservative church.
