President Donald Trump said Tuesday that he has no plans to fire the president of the Federal Reserve, Jerome Powell, a few days after his statement that he would like to cancel the head of the Central Bank of the United States caused a stock market sale.
“I have no intention of saying goodbye,” Trump told reporters.
The president of the United States had previously suggested in another way, since he said that it could be Powell if he wanted to, having frustrated the bone by the Fed that put a pause in the short -term interest rates.
Powell has said that Trump’s tariffs are creating uncertainty about slower growth and greater inflationary pressures, while the president argues that inflationary concerns are essentially non -existent.
The president argues that the energy and prices of grocers are falling, so Fed should reduce its reference rates because inflation is no longer a threat to the US economy, Trump said.
His comments indicated that he still plans to use the stalker pulpit to press a central bank of the United States that undertakes to resist political pressure as part of his mandate to stabilize prices and maximize employment.
“Everything is going down,” Trump said. “The only thing that has not dropped, but Hal has not increased much, are interest rates. And we believe that the Fed will have.
