The Ministry of Transportation and Highway Roads plans to launch a safety evaluation rating for trucks and heavy commercial vehicles in the Bharat NCAP lines (the New Author Evaluation Program), the country’s own accident test program, said the Minister of the Union, said he said.
Going to an event organized by the new Auto Evaluation Program (GCAP) and the Road Traffic Education Institute (go), Gadkari said the idea is to encourage manufacturers to improve the quality of production, making vehicles safer.
The Minister of Transportation and Road Roads also said that the Government is already working on the Safety Evaluation System and Standards for E-Rickshaw in the country, since they suffer security problems.
The improvement of security in E-Rickshaws will improve its quality and generate more employment, Hey added.
In 2023, Gadkari launched the Bharat NCAP (new car evaluation program), which aims to improve the road safety standards of motor vehicles up to 3.5 tons.
He said that India represents the largest number of fatal traffic accidents with 4.8 LAKH of traffic accidents each year are in 1.8 Lakh deaths.
The main priority of the government is road safety, the expansion of safe roads and vehicle safety and reinforcing electric vehicles, Gadkari added.
He said that the Government is also working to reduce the 9 percent logistics cost in the next two years from the current 14-16 percent.
Gadkari also said that the Highway Ministry is also working on a law to determine work hours for truck drivers, since they drive from 13 to 14 hours a day today.
