The former world champion of 100m, Fred Kerley, says he will clean his name after being arrested for what he described as a “misunderstanding.”
It was reported that Kerley, 29, had arrested on the legs for allegedly hitting his ex -girlfriend and his companion Athletic Alayssha Johnson in the face.
The two -time Olympic medalist has recognized that there was a “physical altercation”, but denied that this was the reason for his trial in Miami last Thursday.
“While there was a physical altercation, my judgment was not due to any criminal act,” Kerley wrote in a statement published in his social media accounts.
“I chose not to speak with the police without my lawyer, and only for that reason, they reserved me.
“I remain completely committed to cleaning my name and cooperating with the appropriate parts to solve it.
“I take total responsibility to place myself in a situation that allowed this misunderstanding, and I am taking active measures to ensure that nothing like this happens again.”
The alleged altercation occurred at a hotel in Dania Beach before Kerley had a leg scheduled to compete in Miami at the second meeting of the Grand Slam track, which began on Friday.
Reuters and the US partner of the BBC, CBS, reported that Kerley had his leg accused of a “touch or drum strike” according to the trial report of the Broward County Sheriff’s office.
CBS said Kerley appeared in court on Friday and registered a bail of $ 1,000 before leaving jail.
