The CSIR-National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (CSIR-NIIST), Thiruvananthapuram, will be organic of a “conclave on the monetization and transfer of IP technology” on May 14 on its campus here as part of its Golden Jubilee celebrations.
VK Saraswat, Member, Niti Aayog, will open the event in a function that must be chaired by C Anandharamakrishnan, director, Csir Niist, an official spokesman said here.
IP rights protection
The conclave aims to train research organizations and industries to strategically protect intellectual property (IP), its commercial potential and translate IP assets and knowledge into commercializable products. Special emphasis will be placed on the maximization of income through effective technology and monetization licenses strategies of IP.
Anandharamakrishnan, director, said that the CSIR-NIIST conclave will seek to show its commitment to translate innovation into impact. “In the current knowledge economy, it is important that research does not remain limited to laboratories, but reaches society through strategic associations, robust IP frameworks and marketing roads,” he added.
National experts who attend
According to Spokesman, the event will also deepen emerging trends in IP monetization, including the creation of special purpose vehicles (SPV) based on IP, collection of funds through sales of shares and capital investment or IP investment in new companies. Delegates will obtain valuable information about advanced IP valorization models, such as incubation, spin-offs and joint companies.

First session
Among the panelists in the first session on IP protection and valorization are PH Kurian, former general patent controller, designs and marks; MANJ P Samuel, Executive Director, KSCSTE-CWRDM, Kozhikode; Gopakumar G Nair, patent lawyer and registered trademarks, Mumbai; and Shikha Rastogi, main scientist, CSIR-IPU, New Delhi.
Second session
The second session on joint companies, incubations and spin-offs will have Anoop Ambika, CEO, Kerala Startup Mission; Shweta uttam, CEO, Atal incubation, IIiset Pune; KP Sudheer, chief, agricultural incubator, agricultural University of Kerala, Vellanikara; Balram s, CEO, timed, scimst, Thiruvananthapuram; And Preeeti M, CEO, Technology Business Incubator, Nit-Kozhikode.
