Hyundai Motor Group opened on Wednesday the Hyundai Center of Excellence (Hyundai COE) for future mobility technology at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi.

The new center aims to accelerate research and electrification and battery technologies, forming a key part of the Hyundai’s long-term academic-industrial collaboration strategy.

The initiative begins with nine joint research projects, carried out in collaboration with several IIT, focusing on areas such as battery cells, battery management systems (BMS), energy density, security, durability and diagnostic technologies. It will also explore new materials and components of the system to boost innovation in battery design and performance.

“This initiative will help us develop technologies adapted to India while contributing to its economy and society,” said Heuiwon Yang, president and head of the R&D division in Hyundai Motor Group. “We are excited to work with the brightest minds in India in battery innovation.”

The group is also expanding its future technology research program, which allows the University’s faculty to propose research and support issues. Originally limited to South Korean institutions and the Korean faculty abroad, the program now includes international researchers, starting with IIT teachers.

Currently, Hyundai is collaborating with around 30 teachers from Iit Delhi, Iit Bombay and Iit Madras. The group plans to expand its academic network to 10 universities throughout India institutions that are not IIT-US-US of December 2025, with about 100 participating teachers.

To further support this ecosystem, Hyundai is launching several initiatives, including technology exchange forums between Indian and Korean experts, global conferences on electric vehicles and battery technologies, and the solsssessessders political political dialogue.

As Hyundai’s first academic-industrial collaboration model in a growth economy, Hyundai COE will become a center for pioneering mobility solutions, fostering localized innovation to meet the evolution in the evolution of the Indian market.
