The French car manufacturer Renault has presented what he calls its largest design outside of France, the Renault Chennai (RDCC) design center, located within the Campus of the Renault Nissan Technology and Business Center in Mahindra City, near Chennai.

This new installation will be responsible for designing the next five Renault models that will be launched in India in the next two years. The study currently uses some 30 design professionals.

“India is a unique and complex market made up of the local consumer preferences. Establishing a design study dedicated here is essential to really understand the dynamics of the thesis and create relevant solutions,” said Laurens Van Den Acker, design director of Renault Group. “The study of Chennai will not only focus on specific concepts and models of India, but will also contribute to global projects under the umbrella of the Renault Group.”

“We are proud to be the most Indian or European car manufacturers,” said Venkatram Mamillapale, CEO of Country and managing director of Renault India Operations. “From our extensive R&D center to a robust manufacturing footprint and a deeply located supply chain, Renault has built strong roots in India. The company’s design trip in India begged studies in Pune and Mumbai, which have now established themselves in the new last generation Chennai facilities.

“We are expanding our Indian design team and collaborating closely with interested parties throughout the country’s automotive ecosystem,” added Van Den Acker. “This allows us to deliver products that resonate deeply with Indian consumers while strengthening the Global Renault innovation pipe.”

Renault already operates one of its largest I + D world centers in Chennai, with almost 10000 engineers that contribute to local and international projects. The company also actively exports components made in India for use in vehicles manufactured worldwide.
