The government is mapping mines and steel units throughout the country to provide a better infrastructure installation in an offer for the operational cost and compete in the global field.
When heading to the ‘India Steel 2025’ conclave through the recorded video message, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized that the mines areas and steel units are mapping for better multimodal connectivity and new projects are being introduced to update the critical infrastructure in the east of India, where most of the steel sector is concentrated.
He highlighted the government’s decision to use only the steel “made in India” in government projects and pointed out that government -promoted initiatives represent the highest consumption of steel in the construction of buildings and infrastructure.
Using steel companies to focus on high -grade steel manufacturing, Modi emphasized the need for a “zero imports” objective and an approach to net exports.
“India is currently working towards the objective of exporting 25 million tons or steel and increasing production capacity to 500 million tons by 2047,” he said.
The steel sector must update and expand with a mentality ready for the future and adopt new processes, qualifications and scale, he added.
“The future of the steel industry will be molded by AI, automation, recycling and the use of by -products,” he said emphasizing the need to focus on innovation.
The collaboration between global partners and Indian partners will help reduce the dependence of imports for high -grade steel at a faster rate, Hey said.
Significant impact
The prime minister commented on the significant impact of coal imports, particularly coke coal, both costs and economy and urged the industry to analyze the alternatives.
The availability of technologies such as Route DRI and coal gasification can be effective in decreasing import dependence, he said.
Underlining the importance of addressing the issue of unused Greenfield mines, Modi said that significant mining reforms have been introduced in the last decade, which facilitates the availability of iron ore. It was emphasized that now is the time to use the effective assigned mines to ensure optimal use of the country’s resources.
Noting that the delays in this process would announce impact the industry, the acceleration of Greenfield’s mining efforts is urged to overcome this challenge.
