HRSA Looks to Reduce a Large Number of HPSAs – Alabama Rural Health Association

The US Health Resources and Health Services Administration (HRSA) has published a list of Professional Health Scarcity areas (HPSA) scheduled for elimination. Each year, HRSA adds and reduces the HPSA depending on the result of the data of the supplier survey that determine how many are located in different counties compared to the population of those counties.

The HPSA are designated for the shortage of primary, dental or mental health professionals in certain geographical areas, population letters and/or facilities. The designated HPSA lists are reviewed, reviewed and published annually on the website of the Hrsa Data Warehouse data scarcity.

The most recent impulse of HPSA “proposed for abstinence” is amazing that it is done to previous years. And this is not just for Alabama. More than 15% of primary care and 8% of mental health HPSA throughout the country are scheduled for withdrawal

In a nutshell, the elimination of the designation of HPSA and the loss of federal funds that allow in our state will have a great impact on suppliers. This will affect not only the 10% improved bonus to doctors who provide Medicare’s service in these areas, but also affect the National Health Services Corps, the Corp Corp program and the Visas Exemption programs J-1.

Click here to see the full programmed HPSAS report proposed for withdrawal.

We are observing this situation closely and we are working with the Alabama Health Department to see what can be done on this situation.
