It’s time once again for Boston Marathon! The 2025 edition of the race will be extended on Monday, April 21 with the Kenya Hellen Obiri broker pointing to the third consecutive victory in the iconic race. The athletes will begin the course in Hopkinton, Massachusetts at 9:06 am et, when the division of male wheelchairs is launched and the event will be transmitted to National in ESPN2.
Start and completion times
Obiri and the rest of the professional women will begin at 9:47 am et. They will be the fifth group to cross the starting line. After the division of male wheelchairs begins the race at 9:06, the division of female wheelchairs follows at 9:09 am et. The complete list of starting times is as follows:
- Wheelchair for men: 9:06 am
- Women’s wheelchair: 9:09 am
- Handcycles & Duos: 9:30 am
- Professional men: 9:37 am
- Professional women: 9:47 am
- Athletics division: 9:50 am
- Wave 1: 10:00 am
- Ola 2: 10:25 am
- Ola 3: 10:50 am
- Ola 4: 11:15 am
We do not know exactly when the first runners will cross the finish line, but we can provide some estimates based on recently completion times. Last year, Marcel Hug’s wheelchair corridor established a course record with a time of 1:15:35, exceeding his previous course record in 2023 or 1:17:06. He has won the races seven times, and four of his five victories more recently arrived in less than 80 minutes. He is back and pointing to his eighth victory. If you run at something close at the same time, it will be the first to cross the finish line in Boylston Street, near Copley Square, somewhere around 9:26 am
Last year, Sisay Lemma surprised the field of professional men with a time or 2:06:17. There was DNF’d the race in 2017 and this was its first time since then. The last three races have seen the winner finish in less than 2:07, with Benson Kiprotro running at 2:09:51 in 2021. That would suggest that the first professional will cross the finish line just before 11:45 am on the female side 2:25. A similar completion time would see the first professional woman cross the finish line shortly after noon.

Course
The full course map is shown below, and you can also see it on the Boston Marathon website. The output line is in Main Street in Hopkinton. The runners follow Route 135 for 13 miles in Wellesley, where it joins Route 16. They will follow Newton Lower Falls before turning Do -Wealth Avenue just after 17 mile 17. Just after finishing the 20th mile, Heartbreak Hill arrives to provide the last important test of the race. Then, the runners go to Beacon Street in Mile 23, taking that through Brookline to Boston. The closure of the race comes with a turn to Hereford Street and then left on Boylston Street with the finish line near the Boston Public Library in Copley Square.
Climate
The conditions have hard Gods over the years, but this year it should be almost ideal operating conditions. The beginning of the Hopkinton race will be in the 40 years when the first athletes begin. They are likely to be around 50 when professionals began, and they began mid -50 at the middle of the 50s for the last of the waves.
When the first runners reach the finish line near Copley Square, temperatures must be in the 50s. It will enter the 50s and perhaps 60 for later runners, but not much more than that, which makes it an excellent career day.
Prize
The Boston Marathon distributes the money from the prize equally among the divisions of men and women. The winners of the open division will each receive $ 150,000. The winners of the T53/54/34 wheelchair division will receive $ 50,000. The winners of the T51-52 wheelchair division will receive $ 1,500. The winners of the Masters Division will receive $ 5,000.
The complete awards list is available on the Boston Marathon website.
Who are the favorites to win the Boston 2025 marathon?
Hellen Obiri seems to become the first woman since the 1990s to claim three consecutive marathon titles from Boston. She caused an injury to win the Olympic Bronze Medal last summer and ended second in the New York City Marathon last autumn. Sharon Loedi finished second last year in his first race in Boston and won the New York City Marathon 2022. She comes from a victory in the New York Half Marathon in March. Emma Bates was the best American woman last year, and she should see some competition from the 2018 winner Desiree Linden.
On men’s side, Evans Chebet is looking to recover after a thunder last year. He finished third and was then left in Kenya’s Olympic team. Sisay Lemma is the defending champion in just his second appearance in Boston, but given his discomfort, he could take another surprise to take home first. Conner Mantz is the main American to continue on Monday.
