The Tennessee Titans had a pleasant surprise reserved for the first general selection of CAM Ward during their introductory press conference on Friday.
The legend of the Houston Oilers and the field marshal of the Hall of Fame of Professional Football, Warren Moon, came as a special guest, not only hugging Ward, but gave him his blessing to use his retreat shirt No. 1 as Titan.
“I took number 1 for many different reasons, and used it for a long time, starting in 1976 when I was at university,” said Moon, who flew from his home in Houston for the surprise announcement. “I think I used it very honorably for the Houston Oilers organization to the point where I created a career in the Hall of Fame for Myelf. Now I am part of the Titansee Titans family and my Houston Oiler will probably never be used.
“And Cam will begin a new one … Freshness in this organization to Child of Revitalize and will get that he returned to where he was several years ago when we were one of the most successful organizations in the League. I am excited to use.
Ward called the cold moon about a month ago, when the Titans concentrated on him as the best choice to see if Moon “unnecess” his number for him. The number was removed by the Titans organization in 2006, the year in which Moon entered the Hall of Fame.
“I did not know that this (Moon’s visit) was happening, but I knew that this was going to happen, and I am excited that Mr. Moon is giving me his blessing with this number,” said Ward, who became the best choice in NFL 2025. “For me, the number would never mean anything. It is about the plays you make in the field, so I am ready for this opportunity with my teammates.”
Ward, who was born in 2002, acknowledged that he did, approximately the moon until the draft process advanced and the possibility of playing for the Titans begged a possibility. Then he saw the highlight for the family with the legend of the franchise, which moved away from the game in 2000 to 44 years.
“Before calling it, I made sure to see its most prominent aspects to make sure it was legitimate,” Ward said. “It was. It was legitimate. I am trying to reach his level one day. I could take a little time, but I will get there.
The Titans now put their faith in Ward to become the face of the franchise and raise a team that has supported three consecutive loser seasons, touching 3-14 last year.
“We pass throughout the process with him, and we come with the impressive obviously with the player, but also with the person he is, the leader and teammate,” said General Manager Mike Borgonzi. “We don’t think there was anyone else to represent this franchise that Cam Ward.”
Ward, who played in three different schools: Encarnate Word, Washington State and Miami (Florida), said that being tasks in general in general for the Titans was the fulfillment of a dream of life.
“I have been praying for this since I was six years old,” said Ward, who launched 4,313 yards with 44 Touchdown passes for Miami last season. “I am ready to go to work … with my my teammates and try to win some games in the future.”
