John Mara did not go to her words when the miserable 2024 season of the giants ended. He made it clear that his GM and his coach were in a very hot seat. And when he called to find a field marshal of the franchise “No. 1 problem” of the low season, he was basically ordering Joe Shoe to be looking for one.
Shoe, he thought, was even better than what could have been the best first round of the NFL draft team since the giants found their last field marshal of the franchise 21 years ago. The GM passed a QB in selection No. 3, taking a franchise defender in the Abdul Carter edge corridor. Then, Shoe found a way to return to the first selections of the second round of the round this year and a field marshal of the 2026 Jaxson Dart franchise in no. 25.
It was the largest movement of the giants for a field marshal since Ernie Accorsi achieved the agreement for Eli Manning in 2004. And it was an absolute homer for Shoe, who could not afford anything less after a miserable 3-14 Searorroort and a Yargy The. He needed a great and bold blow like this to make sure that he and chief coach Brian Daboll had the opportunity to survive another year.
And the giants absolutely needed a young promising field marshal as Dart after their expectation, the five -year experiment with Daniel Jones was terribly wrong at the end.
Of course, they have to be right about the 21 -year -old Dart, which broke a lot of oil pass records that were established by Manning. In his three years as a starter for the rebels, Dart launched 10,617 yards and 72 touchdowns with only 22 interceptions. That included 4,279 yards, 29 touchdowns and six interceptions last year.
But while comparisons with Manning are obvious, those were not the important ones for Schoen and Daboll. According to a team source, come to Dart as his version of Josh Allen, the field marshal they helped prepare when they both worked for the Buffalo Bills. Daboll, in particular, fell in love with Dart’s great duration, the process prior to the draft, said the source, and its mobility and hardness similar to Allen. The only big difference is that everything has three inches and 15 pounds in Dart, which is a 6 -foot 2 and 223 pounds.
Not all around the NFL are convinced that Dart is a Plug-And-Play holder, which is really a common issue of explorers about almost every quarter of this class. But that is another part of the beauty of the shoe. He already signed veteran Russell Wilson to be the opener of New York and Jameis Winston to be his support, which means Dart won to play this year.
That is not necessarily an ideal scenario. Playing in games and obtaining the practice representatives of a headline are essential for the development of a young quarterback. But there are innumerable examples of field marshals that sat outside for a year or only two and possible. Even Manning was a headline half of his rookie year.
But what is more important for the giants, Schoen and Daboll are better with a rookie seafood who pursued their time instead of fighting during a rookie error season. They are not exactly in solid terrain in their work. Mara made clear in January that “I almost ran out of patience.” And when asked if his general manager and his coach were in the hot seat, hey, he said ominely: “We will have to do. I will have to be in a better humor this time next what I am now.”
The giants are now configured for a better year. Daboll, as multiple sources have said, is absolutely convinced that the field marshal has been the main source of his problems in recent years. A team source said that he believes that the equally competent field marshal game would have turned the giants into a .500 team last year. He now has the opportunity to try it with a former Super Bowl champion in Wilson on the helm. And also develops a potential future star.
In other words, it is the best of both worlds. Giants can try to win now (at least a little more than they have recently done) while developing someone who can help them win in the future. And it is not only Wilson that gives them hope for 2025. Carter, which adds to a defensive front that includes Brian Burns, Kayvon Thibodeaux and Dexter Lawrence, gives them a defense that suddenly seems quite terrifying.
And then, in 2026, they can, in theory, convert the entire show about to launch, hoping that he is his next Manning, or perhaps his version of all. It is certainly highly recommended. Daboll received great reports on him, said a source, from the offensive coordinator Ole Miss Charlie Weis Jr., son of the former offensive coordinator of the giants, who was one of Daboll’s mentors. He also received good reports from the former giant coach, Joe Judge, who once was in the New England Patriots staff with Daboll and is now a senior analyst of the rebels.
But above all Daboll leaned on his own eyes and his intestine to choose Dart as the field marshal he wanted, at least once it was clear that Tennessee’s Titans were going to reject all their efforts to exchange until number 1 to the Miami Camp Ward Marshal. Giants also liked the Sanders of Colorado, said a source. And were impressed with Jalen Milroe from Alabama.
Dart, he thought, was the type of giants and has been for a while. And once it was, the shoe worked hard to get it. He began making calls to pick 23, but could not make the Green Bay Packers or the Minnesota Vikings (24) move. I was going to stop calling until some made their treatment. The Texans made sure they didn’t have to wait a lot.
Now, giants may not have to wait long to return to relevance, again, assuming that Daboll and the shoe are right about these elections. When Wilson signed, 36, and Winnthon, 31, this low season, there was a concern that they would do it and end with a young quarterback to grow behind them. And although most of the explorers believe that the 2026 field marshal class will be loaded, it was always going to be a risk of waiting.
But no more expected. They have Wilson/Winston for now, and Dart for later, giving them the opportunity to meet their boss’s objectives. Mara needs to be in a better humor, and veteran field marshals, in addition to a terrifying walk race, have the opportunity to put there. And now they have also added Dart, which means that “problem No. 1” of Mara, finding that quartback of the future, could finally be resolved.
