Rory McIlroy career perspective obvious at Zurich Classic one year later

While the LPGA Tour is watching its first important initial year this week in the Chevron Championship in The Woodlands, the PGA Tour has one of its most unique offers not far away in New Orleans.

The Zurich Classic is where the PGA Tour stops this week and its team format is what separates it from any other normal event that we see in the whole season annually. Seeing the best players in the world going to things in pairs is always fun and different.

As if the event does not catch you in the appeal of the golf team, this year it has the current Masters champion making his first official debut since he won the green jacket. Rory Mcilroy and Shane Lowry won the Zurich a year ago and will seek to defend their title this year. Rory turns out to be someone who has achieved the Grand Slam race.

Mcilroy has also won other times this season. Only in 2025 he has won in the dream courses of several people in Pebble Beach, TPC Sawgrass and obviously Augusta. To say that your game is in the maximum way is to put things lightly. He is dancing through victories in some of the most iconic golf places.

For strange that it sounds, that idea may have seemed crazy for the mcilroy that appeared in Zurich a year ago. At that time, his game was in a questionable place, relatively speaking, and was dealing with his personal life being discussed by the world.

Rory reflected on that on Wednesday and pointed out how things seem quite different a year later.

Yes, if you had asked me a year ago if I would be sitting here in this position and everything that has happened. But yes, I could honestly not be in a better place in my life professionally, personally, everything.

Yes, it is surprising what you can do a year. Yes, this tournament last year was a really great moment for both or for us. I think he probably injected some joy in golf for me in some way, what I think is really, very important, not lose that.

Yes, for me, I had a great year last year, and I think this tournament was a kind of really good golf catalyst that I played for the rest of the year.

With regard to last season, Rory had won the hero Dubai Desert Classic before Zurich with his compatriot Shane Lowry. After that victory, he would also take victory at the Wells Fargo. In particular, perhaps infamously, he finished second at Pinehurst Duration the US Open and took his season with a victory at the DP World Tour Championship in November.

Since then, I thought Rory has been in a tear as noted. In its seven openings throughout the year calendar from the world DP. Tour of the tour has the three victories as madness. It has 6 victories in its last 25 beginnings worldwide, first 20 better (including ties) and only a lost cut. It is amazing.

Data golf

You will observe that this data set begins (lower of the graph) with the RBC Heritage the week before the Zurich Classic last year. Obviously, it is impossible to talk to Rory’s personal life in a better place, since only he can do it, but from the point of view of golf he is right. He has a huge career with the most recently seismic in his historical career.

Jonathan Larson wrote Run That it is difficult to measure a year and pontificate in measures to do so. It is difficult to know exactly how Rory would measure the last 365 days (give or take) in his personal and professional life, but it has clearly happened.

Good for him.
