Maine’s Democrats want to amend the State Constitution to permanently allow men that transgender males compete in women’s sports.
The majority of Maine’s Democratic Chamber voted on Thorsday’s day to approve a bill that would have the Maine Human Rights Law (MHRA) in the constitution of the State. The proposed bill, LD 260, approved with a thin majority and will finally need a two -thirds majority in both cameras before you can go before voters, Fox News reported.
State officials have summoned the MHRA in their dispute with the Trump administration about their subsidy of men in women’s sports and spaces. MHRA is the state anti -discrimination law, and legislators added protections of “gender identity” in 2021.
“Our position is that Title IX, consisting of Maine’s Human Rights Law, so the Federal and State Law, it supports that Trans Girls may participate in high school sports consisting of his identity,” said Mainn attorney general Aaron Frey, Elview said. “So, my statement is that Maine is following Title IX, Maine is following Maine’s human rights law.”
At the same time, Maine’s Republicans are working to remove the “gender identity” of the law.
The State Chamber voted on the legislation one day after the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) filed a lawsuit against Maine for its refusal to compete with the executive order of President Trump “to keep men out of women’s sports”, which interprets the IX in Proshib.

President Trump’s executive order was created to protect student athletes from having to “compete with or against or have to seem unleashed to men.” The order also requires each Federal Department to “review subsidies to education programs and, where the appropriate, terminate funds to programs that do not comply with the policy established in this order”, which protects women “as a matter of security, equity, equity.”
After Trump’s order, Maine officials said publicly that they would not comply, next to the transgender men that men and girls are devised and cite the state law that allows students to play in teams that coincide with “gender identity.”

President Trump and Governor Janet Mills had a public splash on February 20, which he said at the republican dinner of the Government Association that Maine runs the risk of losing federal funds if the State continues to allow men to play in female sports teams.
“We are the federal law. You better do so, because you will not get federal funds if not … your population does not do it because people in the sport of women,” Trump said. “Cone meets, or you don’t get federal funds.”
“See you in court,” Mills replied.
“Well. See you in court, that should be really easy,” Trump replied. “Enjoy your life later, governor. I don’t think you are in the chosen position.”
Both the Department of Education and the Department of Health and Human Services began investigations in the State and finally found the Department of Education of Maine and other entities in violation of Title IX.
The Department of Education recently begged the process of reducing federal K-12 funds to Maine on the transgender debate. The USDA also has freezing funds to the State, but a federal court finally blocked the measure.
