The members of an Oregon College softball team were involved in a two -vehicle accident on Friday night, which left a coach and a dead player.
The accident occurred after a driver crossed the central line of a road and crashed into a bus carrying ten members of the Umpqua Community College softball team.
The bus was driven by the team coach, Jami Strinz, 46. The coach was transported to the hospital, where the Police affirms that he was later declared dead. The murdered athlete was Kiley Jones, 19, who was declared dead on the scene.
“We are deeply entered by confirming that one of our students athletes and one of our coaches lost their lives in the accident,” wrote the Umpqua Community College Athletics Department in X. “The hearts of UCC break with this news, and we ask the community that keeps families already affected in their thoughts and sentences.”
The truck driver was hospital tasks with serious injuries. The other bus occupants suffered wounds described as “moderate to serious injuries and were provident medical services,” according to the police.
Police reports that “deteriorated driving is considered a main cause of the accident.”
