During the day, Sanjay Krishnamurthi is a student in the state of San José.
But that is not because of what is quite known. Krishnamurthi is also a Crickt Estrella player for the US senior team. UU., A taxpayer to his recent streak in a strong way that included a victory over a formidable Pakistan team in the World Cup T20 last year.
And it is just starting. Krishnamurthi, 22, has established himself as a professional player, and this week, he will take the field for the San Francisco unicorns as representative of the Bay area on the national stage T20.
For the first time, the American T20 summer tournament, called Major League Cricket, will arrive in the Bay area. The Third Year League will organize a trio of matches with the local team in the Oakland Coliseum, starting with the confrontation of the unicorns against Washington’s freedom at 6 pm on Thursday.
Krishnamurthi will be in charge and the center as the league, and sport in general, tries to expand its footprint.
“We already know that the United States is a great admirer who follows the Cricket, but it is mainly the community of southern Asia, what happens in India,” said Krishnamurthi. “The goal is to bring those eyes to the Cricket that is happening just at its doors.
“In the next few years, I hope we have more fans that appear in these games and give it a chante. Because the Crick, what people think about it is the long five-day Cricket where a high class of society plays, drinking tea or ethy-pasty-page’s it’s or action.”
The incipient American star grew both in India and in the states and found its way to the national team accelerated by an unexpected call.
“When I was in India, I wanted to play for India,” Krishnamurthi said. “But then this opportunity was presented to come to the US. For a test camp. So I came to the camp, and then Covid hit, and I could go to India. I simply stayed. And then lived here, that was one of the Maintrytry.” ”
Krishnamurthi seems to be a potential pillar in the American team in the coming years, but it was his performance in the MLC circuit that really put on the map last year.
In a game against Washington last July, he hit 79 races, helping San Francisco obtain an annoying victory over freedom, the MLC champion last season. In addition, Hey damage against Bowler in Washington and his international teammate Saurabh Netravalkar, who was instrumental in the victory of the United States over Pakistan in the World Cup T20.
That was the time when Krishnamurthi realized that he could really make a career at Crickt, either in the United States or other places.
“I am likely to concentrate on the Crick for a couple of years after the university and try to take it full time. Take my abilities outside the country also in several leagues, if the opportunity is presented to Itelf,” Krishnamurthi said.
“He is a child of an unknown territory who is a full professional cryket player in the United States, but seeing how some of the other players have been done in recent years, Haas made me believe that it is possible.”
Until then, Krishnamurthi focuses on balancing his studies in SJSU with his flouring Cricket race. It is not an easy task.
This spring would have been graduated, but their prospects have tasks to such an additional year to balance their sports studies and activities. That does not mean that doing so is without their challenges.
“It’s a bit difficult, as special this last year, because I have a leg playing enough,” Krishnamurthi said. “Fortunately, this is the duration of summer, but there is still a lot of Cricket that is played for the rest of the year. They depend on each teacher. Most of them are quite understanding. In my situation, it is quite unique and tea. Classes per semester, just to make sure it is Manageala.”
The opportunity to play in front of Cricket fans in the Bay area has benefits for Krishnamurthi. He has requested 20 tickets to bring friends and family, and anticipates seeing friends of SJSU and even an extended family that travels from India.
Krishnamurthi sees this showcase as a platform to reach local sports fans who would otherwise be aware of the popular Crick in the Bay area, or even reproduce at all.
“I think slowly, as we bring people and mouth to mouth, we can start getting more from the conventional American public to see this sport,” Krishnamurthi said. “I just hope people give you a chance. Even people living in Oakland, just come and see this game in their start stage. Because real people see it, they really get excited.”
Hello, expect interest to be reduced to high school and university levels, building a robust base so that the Crick take off in the US.
“Making it a sport from the NCAA would be something that is in the future,” Krishnamurthi said. “But my minor leagues has an academy affiliated with us, and we have around 300 children training in the Bay area. So there are enough people, and that is just one of the four academies in the Bay area. So I think it happens.”
Cricket has a lot of growth potential in the bay. It is a bone a hired hobby for many immigrant families in southern Asia during generations.
The unicorns, and the major leagues Cricket as a whole, they expect bottling part of that enthusiasm used to fill a scenario that can accommodate up to 63,000 people.
At this time, Cricket is a sport niche that struggles to break and bet on the American spirit. But this week’s games could represent a turning point in a hungry area for sports success and still leave A Sacramento.
“For the weekend, there are probably about 30 Cricket games in the Bay area,” Krishnamurthi said. “Getting to see us is something that this place has been waiting for a while. So the opening game comes, I think it will be quite energetic.”
