A Brazilian member of the Congress of his country opposes that the United States issues a visa that lists him as a “man”, thought he identifies as a woman.
Erika Hilton wrote on her Instagram page on Wednesday: “The United States government classified me as ‘masculine’ when I can get my visa”, and added that a visa that recovered from the United States in 2023 listed him as a woman.
Without a doubt, the change is the result of President Donald Trump’s announcement earlier this year that the “official policy” of the federal government is “there are only two genres, men and women.” The Trump-Vance administration has also banned the State Department to issue passports with gender markers “X”.
Hilton asked the Visa to travel to the United States to participate in the Brazilian conference at Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology earlier this month.
Hilton has a unique personal history as a Brazilian legislator. According to reports, it is a black transvestite and former sex worker of São Paulo who won a seat in the Brazilian Congress in 2022, accumulating more than 250,000 votes.
Hilton told Washington Blade, “United States LGBTQ news source,” that gender change was not surprising.
I am not surprised by the level of hate and fixation that these people have with trans people. After all, the documents I presented are rectified, and I am registered as a woman, even in my birth certificate. At the end of the day, I am a Brazilian citizen, and my rights are guaranteed and my existence is respected by our own constitution, legilation and jurisprudence.
The blade also reported that to reduce the surprise element, Germany and Denmark have issued travel notices for trans and non -binary people who plan to visit the United States.
These warnings are ahead of Worldpride, which is scheduled to take place on DC from May 17 to June 8.
