The expert in Russia, Anatol Lieven, explores the options facing Ukraine, Russia and the United States.
The agreement offered by the United States is an “unfortunate commitment” that must be accepted by Russia and Ukraine, argues Anatol Lieven, director of the Eurasia program of the Quincy Institute for the State of the State responsible.
Lieven tells the host Steve Clemons that Ukraine leaders should recognize that the Ukrainian territories occupied by Russia in recent years are lost.
He adds that Russia, by accepting a high fire in the current battle lines, has “renounced” when trying to occupy the entire territory of Ukraine he had expected.
Meanwhile, Europe “has nothing serious to offer” to end the fight, says Lieven.
