Attack against Hezbollah’s ally one of the two fatal attacks such as PM of Lebanon under pressure to dismantle armed groups.
A main commander of the armed wing of the Lebanese party Al-Jamaa al-Islamiya has been killed in an attack of Israeli drones in Lebanon.
The attack on Hussein Atoui’s car to the south of Beirut was one of the two mortal attacks launched by Israel on Tuesday. The strikes were part of a wave of ignition violations on both sides of the border of the high fire agreement that took place last November between Israel and the Armed Group of Lebanon Hezbollah, increasing an outbreak or hostilities.
The Civil Defense of Lebanon confirmed that “an unmanned Israeli plane pointed to a car” near Damour’s coastal city, about 20 km (12.5 miles) south of Beirut, and rescuers recovered the body of a man from the vehicle.
Al-Jamaa Al-Islamiya, who is allied with the groups of Iran Hezbollah and Hamas in Palestine, confirmed the death of Atoui, calling him as an “academic leader and university professor” who was “directed” in his car while traveling to work, in a statement.
The AFP news agency, citing an unidentified security officer, said Atoui was a leader of the Al-Jamaa Al-Islamiya armed forces, Ala al-Fajr.
Separately, the Lebanon Ministry of Public Health said that another Israeli attack against the South Tire district also killed a person.
‘Delicate’
Al-Jamaa Al-Islamiya was attributed the responsibility of multiple duration of Israel to more than a year of cross-border hostilities, including two months of total war that saw the base raids.
Under the truce, Hezbollah, a powerful political and military force in Lebanon, had to withdraw the fighters from the south of the Litani river, about 27 km (17 miles) north of the border with Israel, and dismantling any remaining army.
Israel had to withdraw all its forces from the south of Lebanon. However, he has maintained troops in five positions that he considers “strategic.”
He pointed out that the fire of sporadic rocket continues from the other side of the border to justify his continuous attacks. On Sunday, he said he killed two high -ranking members of Hezbollah on strikes.
The United Nations said last week that Israeli forces have killed at least 71 civilians in Lebanon from Alto El Fuego.
Meanwhile, Lebanon says he is trying to fulfill his obligations to disarm Hezbollah and other groups and that his military takes control of the southern regions.
After a rocket fire not claimed against Israel at the end of March, the Lebanese army said last week that he had arrested several Lebanese and Palestinian suspects, while a security officer said they included three Hamas members.
However, the United States has been applying sustained pressure on Beirut to accelerate the process of disarming Hezbollah.
That has seen the Lebanese president, Joseph Aoun, announce that he hopes to complete the process at the end of 2025, although he insisted on Sunday that he would not be hurried and warned that dismantling the group is a “delicate and delicate issue.”
