The open coffin of Pope Francis has been taken to the Basilica of San Pedro, accompanied by cardinal boxes and Swiss guards.
When sounding the bells of San Pedro, the coffin left the Santa Marta house on Wednesday, the modest residence where Francis lived and died, on the shoulders of the bearers and was slowly transported towards the basilica.
Eight Swiss guards walked next to the open wooden coffin when he passed through the Plaza de San Pedro, which was full of tens of thousands of spectators.
The priests adorned with the choir dress and others in Sotana formed the long procession, some with candles in their hands, while the nun groups followed Beind.
The Argentine pontiff died on Monday, at 88, after suffering a cerebral spill, a heart insufficiency.
Its funeral is scheduled for Saturday and is expected to attract great crowds and leaders around the world.
