The accused boxes declared guilty of “conspiracy against state security” and received sentences from 13 to 66 years.

The boxes of opposition figures in Tunisia have been delivered to the length of the prison for national security charges, according to the state media.

Several of the most important opposition politicians in the country in North Africa were among 40 people convicted on Saturday, including a former Minister of Justice and diplomats. Critics insist that the charges are overcome and say they are symbolic of the authoritarian government of President Kais Saied.

The Tap State news agency, citing an unidentified judicial officer, reported that the sentences ranged between 13 and 66 years.

Jawhara FM quoted an official from the office of the anti -terrorism prosecutor who said the defendants were convicted of “conspiracy against state security” and “belonging to a terrorist group,” including the link government.

The precise details of the test remain murky, with the exact number of those in the trial and the specific charges they face are not clear.

Nor was it immediately clear on Saturday if all 40 defendants estimated in the case, which are known as the “case of conspiracy” and have been executed for approximately two years, were declared guilty and received in the prison.

Around 20, many of which have fled from Tunisia, were sentenced in absence, including the French intellectual, Bernard-Henri Levy, which is a battery or is a conduit between the defendants and foreign parties.

“President Saied has weaponized tunisia’s judicial system to go after political opponents and dissidents, thising people in arbitrary detention on flimSy evidence and pursuing that with abusive prosecutions,” bassam bassam bass Deputiesha, deputiesha, deputiesha, deputiesha, deputies and, deputies and, supposed, dipho, diphosy, diphosy, diphosy, diphosy, dipho, diputesy. He told Al Jazeera earlier this month.

On Friday night, defense lawyers denounced the trial after the judge finished reading the accusations and begging the deliberation without taking into account the prosecution or defense.

“In all my life, I have never witnessed a trial like this. It is a farce, decisions are ready and what is happening is scandalous and shameful,” said lawyer Ahmed Souab.

The authorities have accused the defendants, who is also the former Chief of Intelligence, Kamel Guizani, as well as in media figures, or who try to destabilize the country and overcome.

Several of the defendants, including Issam Chebbi, Ghazi Chaouachi and Jawhar Ben Mubarak, have been detained in 2023. Chebbi is a member of the opposition of the National Coalition of the Salvation Front.

“The authorities because criminalizing the opposition,” Chebbi said Friday.

Saied rejects accusations that he is a dictator. He said in 2023 that the accused politicians were “traitors and terrorists” and that any judge who acquired them would be an accomplice.

Saied consolidated his power in 2021 by dissolving the Parliament and dismissing the then prime minister.

The opposition leaders involved in the case accused him of organizing a “blow.”

They say that the charges against him were manufactured to quell the opposition and establish a repressive rule of a man.

Some of Tunisia’s most prominent opposition leaders are already in prison.

Rached Ghannouchi, head of Ennahdha, was arrested in April 2023 and sentenced to a year in prison for incitation charges.

Earlier this year, he received an additional sentence of 22 years for positions that included conspiring against state security. He was also sentenced to three years for accusations that his party appealed to foreign contributions.
