US VP Vance arrives in India for four-day visit as US tariff threat looms | Trade War News

The vice president of the United States, JD Vance, arrived in India for a four -day visit, since New Delhi seeks to avoid US tariffs, negotiate a bilateral commercial agreement with Washington and strengthen ties with the administration of President Donald Trump.

Vance was a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday, the first day of his visit to a large personal measure. He was received with a hug by the Indian leader in his residence in New Delhi, showed photos published by the Indian government.

Regarding the visit, the two leaders discussed the plans of the strengthened bilateral ties described in February when Modi with Trump in the White House in Washington, DC.

“The visit extends close to a positive and successful meeting between President Trump and Prime Minister Modi in Washington earlier this year,” Vance’s office said in a statement.

The conversations began before Trump earlier this month announced radical tariffs on all commercial partners, including 26 percent of the encumbrances in India.

Later, Trump arrested the country’s specific tariffs for 90 days. His administration framed the measure as part of a great negotiation tactic aimed at the liver to remember better with partners like India.

According to the current agreement that is being discussed, India and the United States have established the objective of more than more than their trade at $ 500 billion by 2030, while they promise to integrate supply chains and increase jobs in both countries.

Vance’s first visit to New Delhi since he became vice president in January also coincides with a quickly intense commercial war between Washington and Beijing, who is the main rival of New Delhi in the region.

Modi and Vance are expected to “review progress in bilateral relations” and “exchange views on regional and global developments of mutual interest,” said the Ministry of External Affairs of India.

On Monday, Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said Vance’s visit “will deepen even more in the Integral Strategic Association of India-US.”

Counteract China

Washington has long seen India as an important strategic ally to combat China’s growing influence in the Asia Pacific region and has tried to strengthen ties in recent years.

India is part of the quadrilateral security dialog with the United States, Japan and Australia and is seen as a counterweight to the expansion of China. Trump is expected to attend a quadruple leaders in India at the end of this year.

Modi had personally sought to establish a solid working relationship with the duration of Trump in the first mandate of the president of the United States in the position of 2017 to 2021.

The Indian leader was then one of the first leaders to visit the United States and hold Trump conversations after he returned to the White House for a second term on January 20.
